Milton Keynes is rightly regarded as the most successful new town in the world. Llewelyn Davies was commissioned by the Milton Keynes Development Corporation in 1967 to prepare the master plan for the new city, having previously successfully planned Washington New Town, the first generation of new towns in the UK. The conceptual plan
was based on 3 existing towns and involved the creation
of a series of villages, each with local amenities, located within a ‘wavy’ grid road system covering the entire development area.
