Llewelyn Davies was appointed in 1995 to design and construct the new 1 million square feet world headquarters complex for Cathay Pacific at Chep Lap Kok Airport in Hong Kong to include an Operations and Crew Report Centre, offices, hotel, training centre, flight simulator, conference centre, and fitness facilities. In a concurrent assignment Llewelyn Davies was also appointed to strategically review the existing facilities for Cathay Pacific Airways and assess their requirements for the future. Our brief was to provide flexible accommodation and a property strategy for 4,000 staff. By providing a single cultural identity for all staff, and a business / design solution that unified complex operational functions and reorganised accommodation around a 140-metre internal street, we managed 30% net saving over the existing floor space.
Designs were also implemented for office accommodation, leisure and sports facilities and a 500-bed hotel that had a unifying theme providing a new contemporary image for Cathay Pacific.
