In March 2017, a supplementary report to the ‘Evelina Stage 3 Report’ was issued. This report consisted of an Evelina 2 phasing study which either removed the use of or delivered Block A within the final phase. This was driven by the understanding that Block A was now unavailable in the short to medium term of the Evelina 2 DCP. The study proposed the development starting with the construction of Block H, then either followed by Block G or alternatively followed by Block G and then completed with Block A. Whilst delivering the quantum of area required within the original Brief, through a series of clinical reviews and user group consultations it was deemed that neither phasing approach would meet the clinical service requirements for Evelina 2 in regards to clinical adjacencies or service efficiencies. This was mainly due to the space delivered in the initial phase at levels 2 and 3 (Theatres & PICU) not meeting key brief and clinician’s requirements.
