The site was a derelict, former industrial wharf, lying at the entrance to Greenhithe Village. Llewelyn Davies was commissioned as planners and architects for the development of a high density, 211 residential unit scheme, fronting the River Thames, along with supporting commercial and community facilities and underground car parking.
The site lies within a floodplain and had to be carefully designed to reflect this. It is also an extremely accessible and sustainable site, being less than a 5 minutes walk from mainline train services, bus services and a new ‘fasttrack’ bus route linking into the wider Thames Gateway area. The scheme provides a significant amount of high quality public realm and private amenity space, linking in directly with the adjacent village and character of the area. The development was also subject to intense public scrutiny from a well- informed local population and responds very closely to the Council’s design guidance for the site.
