Qatar Airways Village is a unique design with an immediately identifiable overall building form, crafted in a self-evidently aesthetically satisfying way. Qatar Airways Village is intended ‘to be a magnet to attract the best trained and most efficient airline staff in the world’.
About the project
The Village has a strong sense of comfortable, convenient and an inspirational place to live in. The planning and design ‘sets a standard for modern living in the capital’, Doha, and provides the physical framework for a high quality of life.
Additional insights
The iconic form of the canopy across the site serves as an energy generator. Overlaid on the leaves of the canopy are state-of-the-art photovoltaic cells and solar thermal panels that could provide approximately 60% of the renewable energy needs of the community on-site, covering approximately 105,000 sq m of the roof area. To promote a sense of community, the population is split into smaller identifiable neighbourhoods of circa 2,500 people. Qatar Airways Village will be the size of a small town and could be characterised as a city within a city.
